Farmers gathering rice stalks to be carried nearby for threshing (removal of the rice grain) in Pai, Thailand. In the north of Thailand, most of the rice harvesting is done manually. After the rice is cut using a sickle, it is left to dry for a few days. This allows easier removal of the rice and gives higher yield. The workers then tie the rice into bundles for easy carrying and hand threshing by beating against the ground.

This image captures three elements that strongly symbolises Thailand, a Buddhist monk, Wat Phra Kaew and the Elephants Monument. Everyday monks make their early morning alms collection, mostly of prepared food that they from people as offerings in exchange for blessings. At the intersection are a herd of three-headed pink elephants, considered sacred and a symbol of royal power. The monument was built in 2011 to celebrate King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 84th birthday and the country’s longest reigning monarch. In the background is What Phra Kaew located inside the Grand Palace compound. What Phra Kaew houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha and is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand.

A Thai and Burmese migrant vendor selling limes at Klong Toey Market in Bangkok Thailand. Klong Toey’s name originated from the canal (klong) that was dug through the area in the 1850s which was then lined with Pandan leaves (Toey) hence the name Klong Toey. The market is now Bangkok’s largest fresh market supplying the people and restaurants of the city with low prices on meat, seafood and farm produce.
